What to buy, so confused..

Postby lguernsey1 on Fri Dec 03, 2010 9:16 pm

I have been looking at telescopes to buy for my daughter. This is what we have been looking at barska star watcher 114mm x 900 mm eo reflector ae10758. my question is after reading on the forum is will the images be upside down?
I am wanting something that she can grow with, get good views of the plants etc.
my price range to start is 200 or under, she is only 6 but this will be for us to learn together and use together.
thank you

In that price range look at the Bushnells and Celestrons. I do not use astronomy scopes, only spotting scopes, but in both cases a steady tripod is essential.

Hi

Yes, images are upside down in any reflector, but this is not an issue for astronomy, at all. It is only an issue if you want to use your telescope for some daytime work as well. In that case, a refractor with a diagonal or prism is a better choice.

If you want to stay with a reflector and I do recommend a reflector as a good choice for a beginner, you might also want to look at the even larger Bushnell Ares Dob. It is a very easy to use design and that bit of extra size is worthwhile, as telescope size is the primary factor in telescope performance. Really is a best buy in a beginner telescope.
