Hi,
I am wondering if this scope would beat my 10" dob on planets(it would obviously beat it on DSOs).
Also does anyone know where the scope ships from, as I would like to buy the scope from a dealer closer to my house, to minimize the chance of damage occurring during shipping.
Thank you,
jz dobman

Re: Meade Lightbridge 16
Hi
Yes, a 16" is going to get you better resolution than a 10", all else equal. No escaping the laws of optics on that one. Of course, how much resolution is enough? I've gotten excellent images from a 10" Dob on Jupiter and Saturn and then stepped right over to our club's 17.5" Dob and the images were better, yes. I could see finer tendrils on Jupiter's cloud belts and a bit more separation in the rings of Saturn. Enough to justify spending big bucks on a larger scope, though? Only you can answer that.
If the item is in stock at OP, it will ship from Northbrook, Il. If it is backordered from Meade, then it will drop ship from Meade in California. Although damage in shipping does happen, now and then, it is actually quite rare. These things are packaged to withstand some really nasty abuse. I don't think I would sweat too much on this issue.
