Whats the selling points of this telescope

What are the selling points for this package ,Celestron C8 S-GT w/ StarBright XLT coatings $1499.99, and comparably equipped Meade 8 inch telescopes?
This prices sounds very good to include all the goto accessories.
I am interested. It will be my first scope and I intend it to be my last, hence I have no desire to start with less than an 8 inch aperture.

Hi Dean

Thank you for your interest in www.OpticsPlanet.com

Celestron vs Meade is something of Ford vs Chevy question. Both are the leaders in the SCT market and both offer comparable products. Your decision should be based on a) which features are most important for you and your intended observing and b) availability if you plan a purchase in the immediate future. Demand often exceeds supply on popular variations of either company’s 8” SCT. The good news is that competition produces great values such as the Celestron 8 SG-T, http://www.opticsplanet.com/celestron-c ... scope.html.

Featurewise, enhanced coatings are well worth the price regardless of which brand you choose. This is the surest way to improve performance for all types of observing. Your choice to go with the Starbright package is well advised.

For GOTO observing and visual observing, fork mounts offer convenience and portability. This is especially important if you will be traveling to a dark sky location or if you will need to break down your telescope after each observing session. If this describes your type of observing, you may want to consider one of the fork mounted Celestron 8s, such as the Celestron 8i, http://www.opticsplanet.com/clstrn-nxtstr-8i.html.

On the other hand, there is a reason German equatorial versions such as the Celestron 8 SG-T are selling strong these days. For precise tracking and astrophotography, a quality, counterbalanced German equatorial is more accurate and stable than a fork mount, especially when you start adding camera equipment. If you plan to leave your telescope in a shed, this type of mount makes a lot of sense.
