Celestron C8S-GT features vs Meade LXD75 features

Postby opticsplanet.com on Tue Oct 12, 2004 10:54 am

Does this special include the computerized goto feature for this price? Celestron C8 S-GT w/ StarBright XLT coatings $1499.99

What diferrentiates Celestron and Meade? Meade is another 1000 bucks
more for the same thing.

I've always lusted for a good telescope and I want to do this right.
Thank you

Dean

Hello again Dean

Yes, the Celestron C8-SGT,
http://www.opticsplanet.com/celestron-c ... scope.html
does include the GOTO feature at the listed price.

Here are a few of the reasons you will be paying more for the comparable
Meade LXD-75-8AT UHC,
http://www.opticsplanet.com/meade-lxd75 ... -uhtc.html.

1. The Meade LXD-75-8AT UHC includes an 8x50 finder versus a smaller 6x30 finder for the Celestron C8-SGT. If you plan to do visual observing w/o the GOTO, the 8x50 finder is a nice feature.

2. The Meade LXD-75-8AT UHC has a 2" focuser with an adapter that takes 1 1/4" eyepieces. This is an excellent feature if you will be using high grade, long focal length eyepieces which usually have two inch barrels. The Celestron C8-SGT can be upgraded to a two inch focuser later, but it will not be cheap.

3. The Meade LXD75 also includes the LP imager,
http://www.opticsplanet.com/meade-autos ... ackag.html which allows you to take digital photos. The Celestron C8S-GT does come with a RS-232 Port which allows a link to a PC, but does not have the imaging capability of the LP imager.

4. The Meade LXD-75 mount offers more slewing options and versatility for tracking than the C8S-GT.

However, you should also be aware that the LXD75 is backordered at this time and will reamin so for at least another month. Meade has the OTA aseemblies, but is waiting on the mounts. If you need a telescope right away, you would have a better chance of delivery with the C8S-GT

Also, you are welcome to ask as many questions as you need. Lusting after a telescope is a healthy thing.

Hello,

I've just ordered an LXD75 SN10AT UHTC from you, and would like to know when I can expect it to be shipped...

Just curious, I'm a patient person.
