Hi Stan,
No, a better picture can not be provided at this time. Leupold does not have color swatches available for their anodizing yet. They opened a whole can of worms with this offering, and they're still trying to figure it out. Our website is changing almost daily to keep up with new information I get from them every few days. As I think of new questions and potential problems with this service, I ask Leupold, and find that some of these are new things for them to think about that haven't come up before. Those guys and gals are the greatest in the business and they are doing their best.
There were eleven color choices originally printed in their 2006 catalog. There are now only six available. A couple of colors available now were not even offered as original choices. They're having a hard time, and hopefully will get it figured out eventually. Two or more custom color choices at the same time are also not available right now, as stated in their catalog. Splatter and tie die are still additionally available.
As of this week, you can get a solid color, or matte black faded to a matte custom color, or gloss black faded to a gloss color.
The faded custom color will only be offered on the ocular side at this time.
The pricing structure is a bit complicated. Examples are as follows:
Matte black faded to a matte custom color- $35.00 plus $150.00.
Gloss black faded to a gloss custom color- $35.00 plus $150.00 plus $100.00.
Solid gloss one color - $150.00 plus 100.00.
Solid matte one color- $150.00.
Splatter add $35.00.
Tie die add $35.00.
Color choices can not be matched with a customer's request at this time.
Color choices as of now are as follows:
Forest Green
OD Green
Smoke Gray
Gun Metal Gray
Cobalt Blue
Competition Blue
Black (for scopes that are originally offered as such)
Silver (for scopes that are originally offered as such)
Colors can not be exactly duplicated from batch to batch at this time.
Leupold suggests that you call them before placing any order for anodizing.
Write back with any further questions, I'll be happy to sort out the answers for you. _________________ Aim Hard!

Sounds like Leupold got a little ahead of themselves. I'd like to see the smoke gray anodized finish, I think it might match the brushed Stainless Classic I have....guess I'll give Leupold another try.
Thanks for the detailed response. |
