Is the geometry of sighting in (zeroing) a red dot sight the same as it is for sighting in a regular telescopic scope?
Thanks,

Hi,

Yep, exactly the same, except that most red dot sights have larger click adjustments than most scopes. Red dot adjustments are mostly in 1/2" increments at 100 yards, and some manufacturers list them as 1/2" at 50 yards.

The same as a telescopic sight, otherwise.

Steven-L,
Thanks a bunch for your help. I ran across an article somewhere on the net recently (haven't been able to find it again) which showed a diagram depicting...the bullet's line of flight as a straight horizontal line...the line of sight as a straight line projecting at a downward angle from the red dot sight and crossing the line of flight only once, at the zero point (50 yards I believe.)
It looked impossible to me but the person who wrote it seemed so sure of himself that it totally confused me.
Thanks again,
vanmc1

Hi,

Bullets never rise from the barrel unless they are pointed upward. This is required to sight in a gun. Your bullet will intersect with your line of sight on it's way up, then once again on its way down.
