Brunton discounts
Why are Brunton scopes so heavily discounted and where are they manufactured? How does Leupold 12x40x60 without HD compare to 20x45x62 Brunton ED which is half the cost of Leupold? Thanks very much for your advice, people in rural and other remote areas usually do not get to view other folks good optics to know the differences.

Re: Brunton discounts
Hi
The Eterna is made in Japan, the Leupold Gold Ring HD is assembled in the US (with some imported parts)and is the only conventional spotting scope that has any US predigree, these days, other than the much more expensive Televues. This accounts for much of the difference in price.
Both great scopes, but a bit different in optical design. The Gold Ring HD employs a folded optical system that makes it shorter and more compact than a conventional scope. The Gold Ring HD has a long and distunguished history and if you are looking for that portability and ease of use and, if it is in your budget, you won't be disappointed. If the US preigree means anything to you, this is your only choice, thses days.
The Eterns, though, is a wonderful little scope for the dollar and a truly great value. In terms of optical performance, it will be similar to the Gold Ring HD and only slightly larger in size. If you want the most scope for the buck, go with the Eterna.
