Burris High Country digiscoping

Postby jimney on Tue May 25, 2010 2:20 pm

I got this 20*60*60 scope from my wife. The adapter she bought was supposed to be universal (for digiscoping). It did not fit the scope. After calling Burris, I see they do not make a camera mount for their scopes. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to have to return the scope for another brand, but I may be forced to. The camera we hope to use is a Nikon D60 Digital SLR, which adds to the difficulty of the situation. Thanks ahead of time! jimney@hotmail.com

Hi

Understand your pain. So called "universal adapters" are designed for a certain range of spotting scope bodies, but it is possible to get a mismatch. Which one did you buy? Some models offer a small and a large version, so you may be able to switch.

Biggest problem is your SLR. It is not going to fit on anything but some very expensive rail mount style digiscoping adapters which will cost much more than your scope. You'd be way ahead to forget the D60 for digiscoping and go with a small point and shoot with no more than 3x or 4x optical zoom. That is not only the better choice for digiscoping, it is also the type of camera these universal adapters are designed to use. Trying to mount a D60 on that scope is a dead end.
