bausch and Lomb vs Buchnell

Postby ike on Wed Mar 29, 2006 4:49 pm

I was looking at a Bausch and Lomb 20-60 spotting scope at a local store. It was $1200. I see newer Bushnell ELite's are like $660. Are they the same thing? Did Bausch and Lomb become Bushnell? Does anyone know the difference?

bausch and Lomb vs Buchnell

I have used this type of equipment for years an would recommend finding someone who has old inventory. The new products are sub-standard. They just don't make them like they used to......

Hi

Bushnell bought Bausch&Lomb back in the early 90's, but continued production of Bausch&Lomb binoculars, riflescopes and spotting scopes under the Bausch&Lomb name for years. Due to a recent change in holdings, however, the Bausch&Lomb name is now owned esclusively by Bausch&Lomb contacts and eyewear. All binoculars, riflescopes and spotting scopes formerly labeled Bausch&Lomb have now been relabeled Bushnell.

For the most part, these Bushnell versions are the same products, made in the same Japanese factory with the same specs as the former Bausch&Lomb version, but you'll get an argument to the contrary from diehard Bausch&Lomb fans and some of these people will pay more for the Bausch&Lomb labeled products if they can find them.

As long as you are comparing the same model of spotting scope, performance will likely be the same, but you need to be sure you are comparing apples to apples, so to speak. There have been many model and spec changes over the years.
