Celestron Ultima 100mm ED VS Pentax 100mm ED

For the price difference, 550 vs 1600, is there that much of a difference in quality of optics and scope in general?

Hi

Definitely a difference. Not saying the Celsestron is a bad scope, by any means, but comparing it to a $1800 Pentax (with zoom eyepiece) is a stretch. The Pentax will be better optically and mechanically. The Pentax 70509 zoom alone at $400+, http://www.opticsplanet.com/pentax-zoom-eyepiece.html is one of the most sophistcated zoom eyepieces on the market.

Absolutely no compairson between these 2 scope's. The Pentax is a premium instrument, and is optically and mechanically superb.
