Upgrade for my etx spotter

Postby Guest on Sat Apr 01, 2006 11:06 pm

Hello. 6 months ago I bought a meade etx-90 spotting scope and have been loving it since then. Opticsplanet did a great job getting the scope to me undamaged becasue it was packaged so well :) Anyway, my scope has the UHTC coating's and I was thinking about upgrading the eyepiece. I know this eyepiece almost cost's as much as my whole scope does but I was wondering what kind of jump in image quality can I expect for my current meade super possil?

I have used that zoom in my telescope and it works great. I have no idea how much of an increase you will see in image quality in a spotting scope though.

The 2-4mm Nagler zoom will be an inappropriate choice due the excessive magnification (312x-625x) it produces in the ETX-90 with its 1250mm focal length. For daytime use, stay with something between 20x and 80x and you'll be much happier with image quality and your scope will be easier to operate as well. Even if you are trying to do astronomy with your ETX mounted on a standard camera tripod, I would not go much over 100-125x.

If you want to simply upgrade the 26mm eyepiece on your ETX, try the Meade Series 5000 26mm SuperPlossl. It will give you the same magnification (48x) as the older Series 4000, but it will also give you more eye relief and a wider field of view. The Televue Plossls are also excellent.
