Bushnell or Pentax Spotting Scope

Postby 114fs0 on Mon Aug 02, 2004 12:41 pm

I'm looking at upgrading from my current spotting scope. I currently have a Nikon 16x47x60. I like this scope, however it doesn't reach out like 80mm objectives do. I looked through a 20x60xx80mmHD Swarovski and it was awesome, but it is out of my price range ($1,000.00). I've narrowed my choices down to a Pentax PF-80ED w/20x-60x Zoom eyepiece and the Bushnell/Bausch and Lomb Elite 20-60-80 Zoom with Rainguard. Does anyone have any comments on either of these scopes? Will either of these scopes be a significant increase over my current Nikon? Weight is not as critical, because I can pack my Nikon if needed. I'll be using this scope for bighorn sheep, elk and deer. I will continue to pack my Nikon scope to get in close. Any suggestions on which of these scopes to chose or similar scopes with quality optics and ED/HD glass. Is this glass (ED/HD) worth the extra money? Any help or advise you can offer is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance

Either of the scope you are looking at are great scopes. Did you want to make sure that your second scope was not a Nikon?

If I had to choose between the Pentax and the Bausch&Lomb scopes, I would probably go for the Bausch&Lomb. It is a little bit better in my eyes. They are both very clear scopes. The 80mm objective really brings in the light and gives you very crisp images.

Let me know if you are apposed to another Nikon scope. I might have some in our stock that I could cut a great deal on. I hope this helps you out. Thank you!
