Hi Anthony

That will depend on the model of Bausch&Lomb spotting scope you are using for comparison.

If you are referring to the venerable Bausch&Lomb Discoverer 15-60x60 spotting scope, http://www.opticsplanet.com/bausch-and- ... 60x60.html priced at just over $200, then yes, you would notice a considerable difference, especially at higher power.

To give you an example, I once compared a B&L Discoverer with an HD Swarovski ST80, http://www.opticsplanet.com/swarovski-h ... scope.html on the planet Saturn. The Swarovski HD ST80 spotting scope showed the rings of Satrun as separate from the planet at 25x. In the B&L Discoverer spotting scope, the rings were not shown as separate from the planet until a magnification of 45x was reached. In addition, the Swarovski HD showed a better image at all magnifications.

This is by no means a criticism of the B&L Discoverer. At a cost nearly one-tenth of the Swarovski HD, it remains one of the best bargains in a spotting scope today.

The Bausch and Lomb Elite spotting scope with ED glass, http://www.opticsplanet.com/628045.html is another story. This is the best spotting scope B&L has produced and it will come very close to the Swarovski in resolution and image sharpness at a price roughly half of the HD Swarovski. You will have to decide for yourself whether the slight increase in performance you get with the HD Swarovski is worth double the price of the B&L Elite.
