I love this site solely for the reviews that you all give on the various products. Straight and honest first hand experience with scopes, red dot sights, flashlights, etc. That kind of info is priceless when your looking at buying something with the features you want and the budget you have. With the intent of ordering something however my interest in giving Optics Planet some business quickly went out the window in a hurry. The cost to ship something internationally, in this case Canada, is simply outrageous! I really don't see how shipping costs this high are justified.
Want an example?
Leapers UTG Combat Weapon-mount and Handheld Tactical LED Flashlight LT-EL268 from Optics Planet Optics Planet price: $45.59US Shipping: $30.60US Total in USD$: $76.29US
Amazon.ca price: $45.76CDN Shipping: $4.25CDN Tax: $2.50CDN Total in CDN$: $52.51CDN
Needless to say it's been ordered already from Amazon.
We really can't compete with a Canadian company shipping domestically on shipping costs. To compare shipping costs from international and domestic stores is not really a comparison that can be fairly made. We are working on providing more economic shipping options, especially to Canada, but at this time we don't have an ETA on this.
Thanks for the reply Steven. I realize that the market in Canada is much smaller compared to the US for anything that Optics Planet sells but couldn't some smaller items be shipped via USPS instead of UPS, FedX, or whatever courier company you choose? There really isn't an option for various means of shipping. Not that I could see anyway.
ATI Stock Drop Spacer MRW4500 Subtotal $4.99 Sales Tax (8.75%, IL Only) $0.00 Shipping $28.25 Grand Total $33.24
$28.25US to ship a $5.00 piece of plastic? It could conceivably be dropped in an envelope and mailed via USPS eliminating brokerage and handling fees associated with international shipping that courier companies charge. I'm not going to rant on this endlessly but I do want you to be aware of the issue.
I wish you guys could use USPS to ship to Canada too. It would make way more sense. If you would be able to actually have a Canadian entity on our side of the border, there would be a lot of $ to be made for you guys. (HINT!) Look at what irunguns.com/irungns.ca is doing. Perhaps it would be wise for your CEO's first daughter to marry the son of a high ranking Canadian politician. Just food for thought.
I tried to order some stuff last night. $143 shipping charge on a $265 order. Nothing I've ever ordered from the states has cost that much to ship. And it was just a pair of boots, gloves and some small things. Hope you guys work it out soon.

To someone who has had dealings and seen the mode of operation, the above explains a whole lot
