Really extreme prescription and sport glasses

Postby harry2110 on Wed Aug 01, 2012 12:39 pm

I was wondering if there was any sport glasses I could use for cycling that werent googles?
My prescript is
-12 x -2.25 x 18
-12 x -2.25 x 18
pd is 63

I was also looking at the columbia silver fall 101 in blue and was wonder how dark just a blue mirror would be and what it looks like ie is it light blue or a royal blue?
Could I also use transition with a mirror or does that not work out?

Harry,

Thanks for the post. It's my best recommendation that with a prescription as delicate as yours that you should really talk to a local optician. Most sports frame are pretty wrapped and wont allow a script that high. Even the prescription inserts could cause you problems.

Solid Blue mirror coating would appear a reflective light blue, which will still be hard to see the wearer's eyes. Please check out my Blog and see the picture of a custom RX order with the Blue Mirror Coating.

The mirror coating could prevent the transition lenses from working effectively.

I hope this helps somewhat.

Nike have a new range of sports sunglasses that can be fitted with prescription lenses. When fitted with NXT prescription lenses, they offer great protection. The Nike Skylon with NXT prescription lenses are really smart, cycling style sunglasses. The manufacturers of NXT lenses claim that they are "bullet proof" The range will cover your prescription needs.

NXT is a relatively new material used by brands such as Bobster and Julbo as well. It blocks 100 percent UV rays without needing a special coating. NXT is also flexible and ultra-lightweight. About 10% lighter than polycarbonate and 16% lighter than CR-39.
