Stinger LED vs. Polystinger LED

Postby K-MAN on Mon Sep 13, 2010 6:35 pm

Just wondering if you can tell me why the Polystinger LED is rated at 185 lumens and the Stinger LED is rated at 160 lumens? I thought the housing was the only difference with the lights.

Thanks

The curcuitry is different. The lights are internally different. For instance, the Stinger LED has three intensity levels, and the PolyStinger only one.

I have the Polystinger LED and it has the 3 lighting modes along with the strobe feature. Could it be a typo by Streamlight with regards to the specs?

Thanks

Currently on the Streamlight website the Polystinger LED is listed at 185 peak Lumen output and the Stinger at 180 peak Lumen output. A difference of 5 Lumens is minimal and virtually unnoticeable at that intensity.

I am a Police Officer and own the Streamlight Stinger LED DS. I've had it for about two years and it has been a good light. A co-worker of mine just bought the Polystinger LED DS. I have noticed that my Stinger has not been as bright as some of the other lights that are used by guys in the Department (Pelican, even other Stingers). I tested it tonight against the Polystinger. The Polystinger seemed like it was about twice as bright as my Stinger. It's beam flooded out mine and I couldn't even tell it was still on. I don't think that the Stinger ever gets close to 180 lumens like described, because there was a drastic difference in intensity for only a 5 lumen difference.

There have been quite a few advancements from Streamlight in the recent years. They have made LED models, LED HP models, and now the have their C4 series out. If your light is a few years old you might have a standard LED and not a C4 LED. The C4 will be a brighter and higher quality light. Even though lumen rankings might be similar, the C4 light will appear much brighter. Also, the HP C4 LED will definitely be much brighter.

I own both models with c4 led's the biggest difference I can see is that the stinger has an orange peel reflector, with a much tighter beam, and the polystinger has smooth reflector which I think makes the beam look brighter.
