I can use help choosing a flashlight for use driving in semi-rural areas, in order to illuminate street signs. The longer the throw, the less time I spend slowing the cars behind me (I know some will say I should just spring for a GPS).
The research I've done seems to be leading me towards a tactical LED or HID. Since I have a single-purpose use, I don't want to break the bank. Any guidance you can spare would be appreciated.

Re: car flashlight
The Streamlight Stinger LED is ideal. I keep one handy in my garage. Extremely powerful but compact. You may get either DC or AC or both. One of my all-time favorite lights.
