tripod for my Bushnell 20-60x80 spotting scope

Subject line says it all -- the stock tripod that came with my Bushnell Legend 20-60x80 scope is okay at 20, but at 40 or 60, it's too shaky. I'm on the fence between the Nikon Manfrotto 848 by Bogen, at $109, and the Bogen Manfrotto 055XDB, 128RC tripod-and-head kit at $220. The former fits my budget, but will be a waste if I'm unhappy with it. Do I need to step up to the Bogen Manfrotto kit?

Hi

I rate the Nikon 848 as an ideal match for a 60-65mm scope - it's well built and solid. It is definitely a big step up from the supplied Legend tripod. For an 80mm scope, though, I prefer the Bogen kit - a better match in terms of stability.

Thanks. Is there an alternative -- something better than the Nikon 848 that's less expensive than the Bogen 055XDB/128RC kit?

Hi

Not that we carry, no. If money is an issue, go with 848. It will still be a vast improvment over the packaged Bushnell.
