Hi,
I recently got an old LOMO microscopes and know very little about them.
It comes with 2 ground glass (?) filters that sit in a ring underneath the stage.
What are they used for - no instructions came .

Hi
Filters can increase the contrast and improve some detail when studying certain types of specimens. There is no guideline as to when to use them, since these microscopes can be used with such an enormous range of specimen types. Just a matter of trial and error. Try them and see if they are useful for your application.
