what is the best setup for looking down to the ocean from a 10th floor window to look at passing ships over 1 mile away

Hi

At that distance, I would suggest a spotting scope instead of a binocular. Keep in mind that when looking at an angle through a window, you will have to deal with some distortion of the image.

you may want to consider the Observer and Senator binos from Steiner. Both lines have 80mm objectives, the Observer is 25X and the Senator is available in 15or 20X. They are eseentially two spotting scopes stuck together.
