Do I need an IR attachment in total darkness?

If I am going hiking in a predominantly dark area. Do you recommend something with IR attached? Which unit would make more sense for me?

You do need an IR attachment in total darkness.

I do recommend something with IR if it is a dark area you will get a better result with a unit that has IR.
I think the NVG7 Gen 2 will be perfect for you. It has everything your looking for.
