A Few Night Vision Questions

Postby Juice on Tue Aug 25, 2009 11:50 pm

I am interested in a nightvision scope for a crossbow setup. I have a few questions. Would the ATN Aries 410 Night Vision Riflescope be one of the best gen 1 nightvision scopes for the price. How much difference is there between the gen 1 vs gen 2? Can you recommend a gen 2 scope for a resonable price that would be more effective on a crossbow? Also I was wondering if I looked through a regular scope with the Night Spirit Gen. 2 or the Bushnell Stealth View could I use it at night? Does the Night Spirit or Stealth View attach to a helmut or headgear?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated in my upcoming purchase.

As long as you have a Weaver rail on your crossbow, this should work fine. When you move up to a generation two, you're getting the biggest jump in image quality. The field of view is flat and distortion free on the generation 2, while generation 1 has more of a fish bowl appearance with a clear center and distorted edges. For a good generation 2 unit, check out the ATN MARS 4X gen 2.

If you wanted to convert an existing daytime scope into a night vision scope, you can use the ATN PS22. This mounts to the objective of most riflescopes with an adapter.

Neither the Stealthview nor Night Spirit are head mountable.
Best regards,

Ryan W.

Just one more question. If I looked through a non-nightvision scope(regular hunting scope) with nightvision headgear on(binocular or monocular), would the regular scope function as if it had nightvision on it???

Although this is possible to do with NV goggles, but it would be a little difficult to get the correct eye relief. Also you have to consider if your day scope has an illuminated reticle it might damage the NV goggles if the reticle is too bright or non NV compatible. I would suggest using the PS22 to convert your day scope into Night Vision.
