some guy is selling the op-523 with the gothic rose lenses for 3,000 dollars. thats way over my price. Can't wait till paper street finishes perfecting the lenses.

Hey do you know if they give any or sell porn tanktops at every convention, because when i watched fight club with i think commentary 7 Kaplan said that he choose the fabric for that shirt. So i assumed that he made it and Brad loved it from the spot.

i AGREE THAT since the economy has gone to shit, more and more op's have turned up on ebay. On happier note, I have found that Op has a frame called KRIS VAN ASSCHE, and it is available in Gothic Rose. I am very hopefull that this means that the Gothic Rose color is once again available, and have even ended my ebay auction because of this. If it is, I WILL be sending my Op's to have the lense replaced brand new, in the gothic rose color. I do agree that 3000k is crazy, but anyone with a credit card, who worships the shades, will buy them. So now everyone who was telling me that my $1500 and $1,000 price was crazy, can see how much they are going for in mint condition.

Take care,
Dan

Hey gang...

The guy that is selling the $3000 Pair of 523s is the same guy that found them for me at the price of $2500...he based the price on the fact that there was a $7000 'buy it now' option once up on a time on ebay and that he saw Danboy's price of $1500 when they weren't in mint condition. He was one of the sunglasses hunters that I wrote to seeing if they could find the ops and after he did, he tried to run it up my sweet little ass at the price of $2500! But he did say that he had the gothic rose lenses that he could put into the frames - but something seems awry about his demeanor. If they are original gothic rose lenses, they why did have to put them in the frames?

I can't emphasize enough that Paper Street is where it's at. Such a small fraction for the exact same thing...and of course I have shown you all that they are all legit with plenty of pics!

Meanwhile I am jumping off my 523 monkeys...

My time with OP-523 has ended. I just sold my OP-523 on ebay for $825.00. Considering the fact that an auction for a mint pare with papers, box, reciepts, tags, and gothic rose lenses are currently at $1,125.00 on ebay, and mine were far from mint, without any of those accessories, I know I made the right choice.

Also, the fact that OLIVER PEOPLES would let some strange company re-create their Famous Frames and sell them for about $200 more then the actual OP's retailed for was pretty discuraging, but if its gonna make some poor space monkey happy to look like tyler, then well not complaints here.

It did bother a bit though. I wouldve prefered that OP release the frame one last time in their limited edition category, and give the real fans who were chacing them a chance at obtaining the real model.

But whatever, wats done is done.

The stock was up and I had to sell. I enjoyed them very much, but it was quite a fixation with something that was sitting in a drawer collecting dust. Nothing lasts forever, and I wasnt planning on taking them to my grave.

I have given someone else a change at having them. Now someone could have a used pare that have actually been in fights. Im hoping very much for my french comrad that he will be able to get the gothic rose lenses for them, and the frame could be proudly worn with the right lense color.

Like I said, everything must come to an end, and I think that 8yrs was a long run. Ive let go of something very materialisticly valuable to me, and I feel good. That part of my life was over a long time ago, and this has finalized that idea.

You probably wont see me in here blogging about about the OP-523.

So take care guys. I hope you all have a change to have the OP-523.

I also hope that OP does something about PSS. I would like the frame to stay as rare as it is, so maybe one day you'll see them sell for the $3000 that theyre going for.

I'm the crazy guy who just spent over $1300 for the OP 523's on ebay. I was skeptical at first, as I had called OP North America and they denied knowledge of any re-release of that frame. I relayed that info to the seller, who provided me to a link to the Japanese OP website through Optec, the Japanese distributor for OP. Sure enough, there was a legitimate cache in the website for a re-release of the OP 523. Apparently they were only released in Japan. I mention this because I know others here are interested in the frame, and I wouldn't be surprised if more of these Japanese re-released frames make it on to ebay. Happy hunting.

I received my glasses today, definitely the real thing. Here it is 2008 and I was able to get a pair of OP 523's that had not been touched. Maybe this will bring hope to those that have been hunting these frames.

Alright, ladies and gentlemen...

Nick Fizzle here, coming to you from New York, NY today and I have been walking around Manhattan whne it dawned on me that there are 2 Oliver Peoples Stores in New York...so I decided to call them both. I called one just non-chalantly asking about our beloved 5-2-3's and of course we know the outcome. They told me they had none. Then I called the other store and a delightful and chirpy gay guy answers the phone that has been with Oliver Peoples for years. When I ask he says that they are discontinued, but if there's a high enough demand then they will re-release them. He said they've done it before and if the demand is there, then they'll do it again. He told me to keep calling the CA stores and the NY stores and asking for them and if I could get friends to call and ask just to make it seem like they're in even more demand then to do it. Who better to ask, than you? So here's your homework...

Do you want a new pair of op-523's? Do you find yourself constantly checking ebay and this forum looking for a solution to put an ease to your op-523 chase? Are looking at other sunglasses hoping to find something close to them? How about contemplating paying that 3000 or 1500 dollar price just to get it over with? Why jump to these conclusions?

HOMEWORK ASSIGNMENT:

You are all to bombard Oliver Peoples distributors, stores, and even the corporate office on W. Sunset Blvd...and let's not forget our friends here in New York. Call, leave messages...get your friends to call asking if they have 5-2-3 frames...

These people will become so overwhelmed with your demands and confused by the instant insane demand for these that it will become a conversational topic amongst employees and soon management and then afterwards corporate on how exactly a frame that was discontinued 10 + years ago is being asked for regularly now. We are going to get these - and here's how.

Now, I know most of you are going to be scrambling for a while trying to find these numbers...but I decided to do that work for you. I even gave you the Beverly Hills Corporate number...so go to work!

CALIFORNIA ------------

8570 W. sunset (310) 734 5000

8642 W. Sunset Blvd (310) 657-2553

Bear St., Costa Mesa - (714) 557-7000

Beverly Hills Corporate Office - (323) 951-0010

NEW YORK ---------------

755 Madison Ave. - (212) 585-3433

566 W. Broadway - (212) 925-5400

Now, let's all keep in mind that this isn't an instant process...but it will be a very effective one giving time...and in the long run, you will be saving yourself time and energy after OP caves in give us nice and shiny new pairs of op-523's. Don't specify Gothic Rose lenses, trying to bring back a frame and a color will be a double whammy to them...let's take this operation step by step. And for the next few months on your down time, call our good friends at Oliver Peoples asking if they have op-523's in stock or a pair of op-523 frames...be creative. Recruit many more to participate. I will have a little handful locally helping me with calls, but I NEED YOU! Let's make this happen.

The frames from the Japanese re-release (April 2008) are the orange color. I paid more than anyone should pay for sunglasses ($1300), but I happened to have the money and it was worth it to me this put this behind me. I own over 2 dozen OP frames, and I could instantly spot a fake. The are engraved on the stem, had the OP tag on the frame, and came with the standard OP card listing model number and frame dimensions. I also have the link to the info on the Japanese OP site regarding the re-release. 100 of the frames were sold new in the past few months. I'm sure more of them will wind up on ebay, it's just a question of how much you're willing to pay.

Just an FYI, if you like the "style" of the OP 523's, but don't demand an exact match, the OP Emissary model looks even more "Tyler" than the 523's in my opinion. I've picked up over 2 pair the past month, and paid around $175 for each.
