hi,
My dad recently purchased this telescope as a christmas present for my younger brother. None of us know anything about astronomy or telescopes and no previous research was done before buying it etc. etc.
Anyways we cant figure out how to work the thing. It seems like a pretty basic setup unless I am missing something, set it up, point it at something (stars), look through it and yeah, just we can never see anything when we look through it. Just black. and yes the protective cap is off. I've tried both eyepieces it came with and still nothing.

am I missing something, or did we buy a lemon?

thanks,
Trevor

Hi Trevor

Assuming the telescope is in proper working order, here are some suggestions.

Begin by aligning the finderscope. This will make it much easier to find objects in the sky.

Start with the lowest power eyepiece (the one marked with the biggest number) and put the barlow aside for later. The low power eyepiece will make it easier to find objects and also give you the brightest image.

Start with a bright, large object like the moon. Practice focusing and changing objects here before moving on to fainter, smaller objects.

Learn your basic constellations and get a star map to navigate around the sky.

Polar align your equatorial mount before you begin observing.

If you still can't see anything, let us know and we can talk about returning the telescope.
