Buyers Remorse Nikon D5100 over Cannon

I'm feeling a little buyers remorse for buying a 5100 over a comperabel Cannon. I'm a beginner and did not know that cannon allows you to use all of thier lenses with the DX format - unlike Nikon. I feel a little "gotcha" in my bones. From what I've read, the Cannons and the Nikons are very comperable, yet the Cannons are less expensive for the same quality.

Did I get stung by the Nikon name?I doesn't feel like I got "more" or "better" by paying for the Nikon name/optics. Am I wrong?

Not to worry. You have so many lenses to choose from with either brand that selection will never be a problem and both brands offer very similar quality for the dollar.

You might not be able to use all Nikon lenses in the DX format, simply because you can go all the way back to the 70s and use old manual focus, film era Nikon Ai and A-is lenses on the F mount on your D5100, though you obviously won't be able to autofocus or be able to use some of the other auto and DX functions, but it does mean that you can walk into almost any pawn shop in the world and find a Nikon lens that will work to some extent on your D5100. Never an option on Canon, because you cannot use any of the old Canon manual focus lenses on an autofocus Canon. Really not an issue, since you will have more than enough DX compatible lenses to choose from on your Nikon, but some of those old Ai-s Nikon lenses were the best lenses Nikon ever made.

I feel for you because I got to experience the same thing before, only it was with a different model. but quality wise, Nikon delivers really well.

Could be worse. You could have spent the money for Leica.
