I have inherited a binocular in a small leather case.
It is silver and is marked TASCO No 17471 and 8x20. The case is marked TASCO IMPERIAL. The binocular looks similar to the Monocular still produced by Tasco.
Any ideas as to the history and value of this binocular?
I hate to be the bearer of bad news. But the quality and value of the Tasco is quite low. They were not known as "Trashco" for nothing. Tasco originally started out in Miami in the 1950s. They imported good quality, Japanese made riflescopes. Since their origination, they have changed hands numerous times and quality went down with each sale. They pretty much had the low-cost / low-quality optics market sewn up until BSA came on the scene and offered eve crappier optics at even cheaper prices. Tasco was forced out of business. Tasco has resurfaced as a division of Bushnell optics. Bushnell tried to sell them to Meade but the Fed. Govt. stopped the sale. Incidentally, Tasco has never made any optics in the history of the company, they have been a 100% brand labeled importer from day one.
