| I am interested in Swift 820 Audubon 8.5x44 or ED model but don't know whether it's worth the extra money to purchase the ED model. The ED model is equipped with extra-low dispersion glass for ... and sharpness across the entire viewing area. I plan to mainly use the binculars for bird watching. Need some advise. Is the ED Model worth it? |

Hi
Is the ED worth it?
In terms of more birds identified, probably not. The standard version will ID as many birds for you as the ED version.
In terms of viewing pleasure and satisfaction, then, yes, the ED will be a better choice. We birders value image quality - it adds to the experience. Then, too, if having the ED version will tempt you to go birding more often, it is well worth it. _________________ ----------------------

I would disagree with OP on this one. The ED will allow you to identify more birds. Why? The truer color rendition and sharpness of the ED glass will allow you to spot birds that would have blended into their natural surrroundings had you been using standard glass.
