Hey, sorry to bother you with the newbie stuff, but does anyone reccommend any particular brand over another? I've been doing quite a bit of research, and will probably end up going with a reflector of some sort (under 500-I'm a poor college student ) It seems that there are a wide variety of reflectors in my price range that would let me do quite a bit with my new scope (please correct me if I'm wrong on that one).
Thanks for your help! |

Hi
A reflector is the obvious choice if you want a serious telescope on a college student budget.
As for type, a Dobsonian is the simplest and easy to use, and also the most economical in terms of telescope size. The Dob has always been one of my favorites, but then I have been in astronomy long enough to navigate without a computer.
As for brands, Celestron and Meade are the Ford and Chevy of the telescope world. Good to have both around, because the competition keeps us supplied with lots of fun stuff. _________________ ----------------------

Thanks so much for your help! It sounds as if I may be on the right track...
I found a refurbished Meade DS-2130AT (comes with warranty) for a great price..have you heard anything about that one? It's a 5", comes with Autostar, 1.25 eyepiece, and I believe 130mm. It looks pretty decent..
Thanks again, you rock! |
