Hi
These are specifications for thread size and tube length.
'DIN' stands for 'Deutsche Industrial Normen.' This is the current standard for most microscopes. The focal tube length of a DIN objective is 160mm. RMS is an older standard which stands for Royal Microscope Society' which had a longer tube length (170mm). Most DIN objectives are interchangeable, but RMS and DIN objectives are not.
Oil and H2O objecives are used to achieve the best resolution at higher magnifications. Light is refracted less (less degradation of the image)when there is oil or water between the objective and the slide.rather than air. _________________ ----------------------
