Spotting scopes with camera

I know nothing about this, but I want to buy a birding scope that is capable of taking digital pictures and linking to a macintosh computer. This is a bit complicated, it seems, by the fact that I live in Canada. Can someone give me some advice?

Let's work backwards on this and begin with the camera. As long as you purchase a camera that can use Mac, you will have no problems downloading pictures taken with it. Most digital cameras are compatible with Mac.

If you wish to use a digital SLR (camera with a removable lens) then connecting to a spotting scope is simple. Just use any adapter listed for a 35mm camera.

If you wish to connect a digital point and shoot (camera without a removable lens) then your selection is more limited. Relatively few models offer adapters of this type, though this is changing. Most of the high end scopes in the Swarovski, Leica, Kowa, Nikon line offer these adapters as well as a couple of inexpensive scopes such as the Yukon and Wind River (select models only).

If you want to go with a spotting scope that can take digital pics directly without a camera, your selection is even more limited. Bushnell makes a couple as does Nikon and Kowa.
