| What would be the best buy for a spotting scope for mountain and water views under $300.00. Is that reasonable? |

Hi
For this application, I like to recommend scopes that use removable, 1.25" telescope eyepieces. This gives the user the option of going beyond the usual 60x maximum magnification of the typical zoom spotting scope. Also, for this type of use, a waterproof model is not needed, nor is portability a concern.
This makes Maksutov design spotting scopes like the Celestron C90, LOMO 70 and the Meade ETX series ideal. Image quality will not equal the finest ED refractor, but in the larger 90mm + sizes, they can handle higher magnifications quite well - assuming, of course, that the atmosphere is cooperating. _________________ ----------------------
