IR Illuminators

I have a infrared game camera and I have come to find that when the camera is triggered in the dark the illuminators light up red. This is spooking the deer I hunt. Is this light up of the illuminators normal? I have a Moultrie I40

It is not proven that deer see IR light. There is good evidence they can see some UV light, but how much is not known. It's more likely they are hearing a sound from your camera and maybe even associate that with scent, and therefore humans.
