Bushell 1x20 261020 - Airsoft

G'day,

Been contemplating for a long time getting a cheap / cheerful NV set for playing airsoft / paintball.

I hear nightmare stories that if a GEN I based NV set gets hit with a torch or other light source when using them that it will destory them. Is this true? The range on the Bushell set is fine, but I am concerned that the GEN isn't high enough due to the light issue.

Could someone point me in the direction of a set?

Cheers,

Chris

Hi,

All night vision will be damaged by prolonged exposure to bright light. If it is just a flash of a torch/flashlight then there should not be any harm done. I do believe that this unit has a bright light cutoff, which will temporarily turn the unit off if a bright light shines into the unit when it is turned on. I highly recommend a monocular like the Bushnell 1x20 Tactical Monocular Goggle for this reason. If the unit shuts off, you still have one good eye to use with your natural night vision. If you are using a binocular and it turns off, you will not be able to see anything.

The main drawback to Gen 1 night vision is image distortion at the edge of the field of view. It is almost like you are looking through a fishbowl, but the center of the image is clear. It just takes a little getting used to navigating and walking with the units on.
Best regards,

Ryan W.
