Viewing game animals in the woods

Postby Unsure on Mon Dec 03, 2007 11:51 pm

Great forum. I am interested in being able to view large game at night in the woods. I've never used NV equipment before. I would be open to a monocular or binocular but most of my viewing would be done sitting rather than moving.

I would prefer something I would be happy with for a while but also don't want to throw money away. I noticed you do have 4 different Gen 2 monoculars for about $1,200. How would they compare with the Bushnell 5 x 42 Stealth View digital for $330?

Thanks in advance.

Hi,

For the question of monocular vs. binocular, there are several topics in this forum that answer that question. Only you can truely decisde what you would prefer.

The Gen 2 night vision vs. the Bushnell Stealthview is another one of those age old debates. In short, you get what you pay for. While the Stealthview gives you similar image quality to a Gen 2 unit, it will have nowhere near the lifespan of traditional night vision. It uses the same technology as a digital camera, which usually lasts up to about 3 years before replacement. Traditional night vision will last longer. The Gen 2 will still have a slightly more clear image than the digital night vision as well. Truth be told, it's in the budget. If you can afford a gen 2, go for it. If not, get the digital.
Best regards,

Ryan W.
