night vision vs. spotting scope
Two diferent product categories with two different objectives. Night vision is about seeing in the dark, not about seeing far. Spotting scopes are about seeing far, not about seeing in the dark.
Resolution is always low on NV, not even close to what you get with a good spotting scope, even with the best Gen 3. That's why magnification on an NV is seldom above 5x. You will never get anything close to 20x in an NV and image quality will never approach what you are getting in your Fieldscope, no matter how much you pay.
As long as you have enough light to work with, a spotting scope will give always provide more detail and better image quality, but that's the catch. On a moonless night under cloud cover, you will need an NV if you want to see anything at all, even with your Nikon turned down to 20x. That's when the NV leaves your spotting scope in the dust.
