Yukon Ranger vs Pulsar Recon 550

Which one is better? I'm leaning towards Pulsar due to the fact that it is lighter and smaller. Not sure about the performance. Any idea?

The Digital Ranger by Yukon is a great unit. Especially at the great price point around $399. I did have a chance to take out and try the new Pulsar Recon 550, and was very impressed. At 10 oz. lighter and 2 less batteries, this unit is a little easier to manage and does not eat up the batteries as quick. It might be one of the best night vision devices pictures I have seen thus far. I would put this resolution up against and Generation 3 device. It just wont match the recognition range. I think you would be quite happy with the Pulsar Recon 550.

Great. Any idea as to why Opticsplanet doesn't sell the X version of Pulsar Recon 550?

The X550 unit looks the same but it is supposed to provide better image and farther distance. I am actively looking for one to buy.

Haven't had the opportunity to use the X550 yet. Knowing Pulsar, I'm sure it is a slight upgrade, but the 550 Recon already has an amazing quality picture for a smaller and lighter unit.

My only concern with Recon 550 is their IR which uses the 800 wavelength which is visible. Ranger, on the other hand, uses the 900 wavelength IR which is not visible. Visible IR is no no for surveillance application. What's your take on Recon's IR? Is it on my default?
