Scope and adapter advice - PVS 14 onto a Ruger Mini 14

Having a hard time selecting a Night Vision scope, goggle or monocular from our huge selection? Need to know the difference between Gen 1, 2, 3 and 4? Just ask!

Scope and adapter advice - PVS 14 onto a Ruger Mini 14

Postby Sheepdog627 on Sat Jan 01, 2011 2:38 pm

I have a PVS 14 (gen 3) and a Ruger Mini 14. I need a recommendation on a scope (perhaps 3-9x40mm?) that I can mount on the Mini 14 with some type of adapter (perhaps a Monoloc or GG&G 1340?) that would allow for an easy mount and removal of the NV. The Mini 14 is a factory set up with no rails.
The application would be for coyote hunting, 100 to 250 yards.
Most of the money I have to spend has been spent, so I’m looking for a reasonably priced set up.
Thanks in advance!

Can't see how this would be possible, unless you have some kind of monolithic rail, which is not available for a Mini. This won't work on many levels. Also, at the very least, you would have to mount your scope quite a few inches forward with QD mounts to be able to use the NVD, and then change the mounting position of the scope rearward again for daylight use. You would not be able to use the scope mounted forward because of eye relief issues. Either mount the scope in the standard rings and use a PS22 in front of the scope, or have a new stock installed and make some kind or package that will allow a full length rail. You can do this with a full length rail on an AR, but it still is pretty unrealistic to expect any kind of performance with this kind of set up, including point of aim and point of impact changes.
