Need NV advice. Camera adaptable, 4th gen w/ magnification.
Hey there. I'm new to NV technology and need a little advice. My budget is $5,000 and I'm looking to get a camera adaptable unit (to be used with a Canon 5D Mark II), preferably 3rd or 4th generation and preferably with magnification. By the looks of things I have my eyes set on a ATN Night Shadow 4 bi-ocular. My main use for it will be for star / sky / plane / "ufo" watching. Any other units out there that might work out for me? Also, does it make sense for me to plunge right into a 4th gen unit or should I spend a little less and try out a 2nd or 3rd first? Any advice appreciated, thanks.

Either way, I'm not sure you will be happy with the amount of magnification these offer. Typically, you will be looking at 5X-6X tops with night vision devices. Because you require the camera adapter, i would stick with the larger companies (like ATN) for the product offering and the proper adapters for your application. Gen 3 is usually very well regarded, but it you really want the best, go with Gen 4 if you have the finances!
