NV Binoculars
I would like a pair that are in their element at ranges of 30 to 200 feet. The smoothest lifelike quality image is required. I would like 5x because I want to be as close as possible. It is my understanding the 5x may make the images grainy. Even so, getting close is a must. I'd like to keep the cost around $500 or $600. Is there anything out that will fit my purpose? Thanks for your help.

Re: NV Binoculars
Only gen one night vision units are in your price range, and I think you'll be disappointed in the picture clarity, especially at 200 feet and with 5x. But all is not lost. It sounds like a quality digital unit will give you what you want, and in particular, the Yukon Digital Ranger. It's one of my favorite units of any kind. The screen is white with resolution comparable to any gen two night vision unit. It is not suceptible to damage from daylight so you you can use it in any light. The IR light won't reach to 200 feet, but neither will an IR light on a gen one unit. It has a video out port so you can record if you want. I love this product and it sounds like it was built for you. It looks like a binocular, but is in fact a monocular. Again, I really don't think you'll be happy with a gen one unit.
