Note: The Bushnell Northstar Maks do not come with a barlow, despite what it says in the Bushnell Northstar manual supplied with the Northstar Maks. Bushnell printed this in error. Here is a good question on that matter.

Quote:
Explain the following quote "Power-boosting barlow lens(reflectors only)".Does this mean the barlow lens will not double the power of an eyepiece when used with the Maksutov design scopes?

Hi

No, it means that only the Northstar reflectors are supplied with a barlow. Bushnell chose not to supply the Northstar Maks with a barlow, because, in a long focal length scope like a Mak, a barlow makes it too easy to produce more magnification than the aperture can handle and still produce good image quality. There is no technical reason, however, not to use a barlow in a Mak, no matter what Bushnell might say. In fact, when used with a low-power, long focal length eyepiece, a barlow is a good choice in any type of telescope when you want to achieve high power and maintain the long eye relief of a low power eyepiece. Thousands of owners of Meade, Celestron and LOMO Maksutov telescopes will tell you the same thing.
