replacement for Lomo p-111

Since the Lomo is no longer available, do you have any recommendations for low-priced, beginner scopes for home educators with 8-year olds who will get older (i.e. - a good beginner-to-intermediate scope)?

No that will compare to the P-111 or even close to it as a value. You could try the Celestron 4030, http://www.opticsplanet.net/celestron-educational-microscope.html for a scope with similar features, but it will not have the quality or performance of the P-111. Next step up from there will be the full featured Celestron 4050, http://www.opticsplanet.net/celestron-biological-microscope.html
