Long Range Elk, Deer, Coyote rangefinder
I am in need of a rnagefinder to range off of coyotes, deer and elk from 750 to 1500meters. I hunt the wide open spaces of Nevada and Kansas and Eastern Oregon and Washington and need the long distance capabilities. Anyone have any suggestions. Size and weight are unimportant. Monocular or binocular are unimportant. I would like to stay under $1250 if possible, otherwise I would just buy some geovids. Thanks Brice bdyal@pld.com

The maximum ranges listed for a rangefinder are for large, reflective targets. One of the best current rangefinders with the most power is the Swarovski Laser Guide 8x30. No rangefinder will range a coyote at maximum distance, though. You can expect around half that distance on a deer, and less on a smaller animal or object like a coyote. Most ofter you'll have to bounce the laser off a larger, more reflective object near the coyote. Here's a primer that may help: How to Buy a Laser Rangefinder.

Brice, I have been using the Opti Logic products for years. They work great on targets above 1000 yards. I believe my XL is good out to 1500 and they are very easy to use. Just a thought. Erik.
