Should Golf Rangefinders Be Allowed During Competition?

Postby johnvint on Tue Mar 15, 2011 3:36 pm

Hi everyone: This is my first comment on this forum. I think this a very interesting topic.

There is certainly compelling arguments behind each side of the matter. Some say why not allow everybody to utilize a rangefinder anytime they want to. In the end the true test of golf isn't to see if you'll be able to determine the yardage precisely, but to determine if you have the talents to accomplish the shot or not. If you happen to be unable to make top quality golf shots then even a rangefinder is just not going to help you very much. I'm curious as to what everyone thinks.

Thanks
John

I think for training and practice a rangefinder can be of much use. This would certainly help you learn your swing more. However, I do not believe they should be allowed in tournaments. My feelings are that in direct competition it should be a true test of skill without the aid of technology.
