I just received my ATN Digital Compact from OPTCSPLANET last week and I have encountered a problem. I am using it as the sight for my compound bow.

When I mounted it to my bow, I noticed that I am getting a slight double image with both eyes open. I thought the sight may just take some getting used to, but the problem did not go away. So, I took the sight off and began to look through it at arms length.

The problem does not appear to be a left eye / right eye dominance issue. When focusing at a target with my right eye (dominate) ONLY and gradually moving the sight up towards the target, I noticed the issue... as soon as the target entered the lens it moved slightly.

After I noticed this, I started tilting the sight and noticed at certain angles, the problem went away. The trouble is that when the sight is tilted to correct the double image, the reticle was way off from the center of the lens/target. I had no success trying to correct for this using the elevation and windage adjustments on the sight.

Is my sight defective or is there something simple I am overlooking. Please help!

Thanks!!!

A slight double image is common in many red dot sights and is something to be ignored. In your phone conversation you seem to think that it is a broken unit, and as we discussed, send it back for replacement or exchange it for a different unit. Could also have something to do with the angle it has to be mounted on your bow.

Steven:

I made this post before I spoke with you. I think I need to clarify; there is no double image with only one eye open. Only a double image with both eyes open. I think this is because there is a slight shift in image position when viewing through the scope at orientations that allow for proper viewing of the dot / reticle.

Example: I can orient the sight a certain way and there is no shift in image position and no double image with both eyes open. The problem is that there is no dot/reticle at this orientation and I do not have sufficient windage/elevation to adjust the dot to a center position at any orientation that eliminates the double image.

Counter to your statement, I just tested out several other reflex / red dot type sights at price points generally equal to or lower than the ATN... Truglow, BSA, Burris and NONE had this issue. The technician behind the counter seemed to believe that it was a lens alignment issue and is probably a defective unit and not representative of the entire ATN product line. He did not carry any ATN sights for me to verify this.

It seemed like you were more interested in getting off of the phone with me than you were with helping me with my problem. I have spent a considerable amount of money purchasing from Opticsplanet. Luckily, I have never needed any customer service for any of the other products I have purchased. I am glad because judging from this experience; I doubt that I would have received any had I needed it.

I expected you to give me competent professional advice or your best expert opinion. You didn’t even ask me any questions. Telling me to ignore the problem is not helpful. Telling me that this problem exists with all “low-end” sights, when it clearly doesn’t damages you and your company’s reputation.

I have contacted ATN and they have agreed to help me resolve this issue. I won’t be able to shoot for the next couple of weeks while this is being resolved, but I will have to live with it as it seems like my only option.
