M1A forward mounting scope
What would your recommendation be for mounting a pistol/rifle scope, WITH GOOD EYE RELIEF, on a Springfield M-1A Scout-Patrol (18"bbl). The mounting would be for the front stock rail that comes with the rifle. I want a 3-8 X 30 or/so which will allow me to reach out and touch a target that is out there at 800yds., but would also allow for some close up shooting. Thanks. Hank

Re: M1A forward mounting scope
Scout scopes are by design a low fixed power such as the Leupold Scout scope. If you want a variable power scope mounted forward it will have to be a pistol scope. Your eye relief is finicky, and often changes with magnification. It's also pretty hard to get any kind of fast acquisition with any power above 2 or 3 at the most. If you choose a pistol scope, check the specs on eye relief, then check where your scope will be mounted and see if it is compatible with your needs.

What mounts would you recommend for the Leupold Scout Scope?
I will be mounting on a Picatinny rail.
