Scope for a 12 Gauge Slug gun

Postby Stratispho on Fri Oct 09, 2009 5:06 pm

Just picked up an H&R Pardner in 12 gauge for some pig hunting. Need a lightweight, low power (even no power) scope/red dot. Mostly worried about the recoil destroying whatever I attach to it. Most all shots are going to be around 30-40 yards but every now and then it stretches out over 100.
A lot of our hunting is very early in the morning or late at night so I was wondering if a red dot with an illuminted reticule would be better and could still hold up to the recoil?

Budget of about $300 but would like to stay under if possible.

Was thinking something like these would work, anyone know if they'll handle the recoil?

Hi,

There are a couple great options out there for both a red dot and for a low power scope. For a non-magnified riflescope, check out the Nikon Buckmasters 1x20. For a low power, but still magnified scope, check out the Nikon Slughunter 1.65-5x36.

For a red dot sight, I really like the Bushnell Holosight and the Burris Fastfire.
Best regards,

Ryan W.
