Target Scope For S&W AR 15-22 Rifle

Postby StanTheMan on Thu Jun 30, 2011 5:18 pm

I am ready to invest in a 22 rimfire scope for my S & W AR 15-22 rifle. I really like what is being said about the Nikon 3-9x40 BDC rimfire scope. Can you guys tell me if this scope is a good choice for this rifle?? My concerns are: The scope seems to be rather long. Will the factory sights still stay in place? What is a good mounting configuration for this scope on this rifle. What would be better for a target shooter with this rifle at the same price? Thanks for any help you can offer.

That would be a great choice for your 15/22! I actually just used that same scope on a CMMG 22 AR and shot from 25-50 yards on a moving target system from "Target Tracker" and was very happy with the setup. That scope would be a perfect addition to your rifle and great from 25 yards out to over 100 yards.

I agree with Trevor 100%. The New 2011 Nikon ProStaff 3-9 Rimfire BDC 150 would be an excellent choice. I had the pleasure of also getting to shoot the same set-up Trevor described but at greater distances. Shooting from 75 to 125 yards I went 100% using the new Rimfire Scope and dropping down to a different BDC circle as the distance increased. I would defintely say the consensus was that this is an outstanding scope and will be a hot ticket item for a long time!

Here's some pics of the scenerio and since I can't get my hands on a Rimfire scope yet, this is what I have on my Smith and Wesson M&P 15-22LR.

Thanks for the Spot On review Trevor!

Thanks for your input Bart .... Looks like I made the right choice ... I will know next week ... I have ordered the scope from Optics Planet and it should be here next week. Along with the scope i ordered some nice 1" extra high mounting rings and some targets for sighting in.
You know, we have one of the best out door shooting ranges in the country here in the northern part of Las Vegas. It is the Clark County Shooting Park and it is a fantastic facility for all kinds of target shooting.
I hope to report on my shooting experience with this scope soon. Thanks again.

I look forward to hearing what you think. I should have told you, but I'm sure you saw, on My Smith I used Nikon's M-223 AR Mount. Worked Great!
Perfect alignment and rock steady. I swapped out all my AR Mounts for this one, not because I had to, heck I had to buy 'em like everyone else, They just work!

Check them out for when you get your next one!
As soon as my son started shooting mine it was gone!
I let Trevor shoot mine last year and he was like a little kid with it, had to teach him how to share again!
Happy Shooting!

Well, guys, I have been using the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire scope on my S&W AR 15-22 for a few weeks now and I have had very good results. For a guy who is new to rifles, I am getting nice tight groups and quite a few bullseyes. I sighted in at 50yds using the new CCI Tactical 22LR round, which was produced as a match for this rifle. If you have the S&W 15-22LR, you need to try this round. Best wishes to all.

Thanks for the feedback Stan! I've been nothing less than extremely happy with nay Nikon I've used, especially since Spot On was released.
