I'm new to scopes, please help

Hello, I am purchasing either a marlin 30 30 or mossberg 30 30 next friday and I am currently seeking a scope. I am going to be hunting white tail deer in the woods at around 50-150 yards and I'm looking to spend only around $100 since I am purchasing a rifle too. Any suggestions to what type I should buy because I don't understand what any of the numbers mean? Thank u

Congrats on your purchase! Since you will be mostly hunting in the woods at fairly short distances, consider a variable scope in the 1.5X-4X or 2X-7X category or similar. The lower powered scopes offer wider field of view and typically brighter sight pictures. Something like these Bushnell Banner models will serve you well:
