Lepould VX3 vs Bushnell 6500 -Wet Hunts-

Postby gs1150rider on Tue Nov 06, 2012 6:17 pm

I am seriously considering a new VX3 2.5-8x36 to match my lightweight .308. I moved from Montana (dry and cold). I now do all of my hunting in the state of Washington. Deer, Elk, Goat (when drawn), Bear, and Varmints keep me in the wet woods most of the year. The problem is that all of the hunting is done in the rain (mist, downpour, light mist, sleet, deluge, etc…), but it is always raining. My friend has a Bushnell Elite 6500 with Rain Guard which seems to shed the rain and moisture better than my current VX-II’s.

Has anyone used a VX3 in a similar very rainy/wet environment? Does anyone have field experience with one or both? Does anyone have an opinion between the Lepould 1" tube and the Bushnell 30mm tube?

Thanks in advance.

Really looking at 6 on one hand and a half dozen on the other. Both scopes are excellent quality. Bushnell has made leaps and bounds in their quality over the past few years and their Elite line is absolutely top notch. They keep up with new technology and keep the price points competitive. As for Leupold, their quality is still up there. I like that magnification range but I have been eyeballing the 1.25-8x32 Elite from Bushnell for some time now. If I were to decide between that and the 2.5-8x36 from Leupold, I think I would want to try the Elite. Just my bias for these two.
