.17 WSM Scope Recommendation

Scattergunner needs help...

I am obtaining the new .17 WSM Savage BMag 10. I have NO experience at mating scopes with rifles, much less mating a scope with a brand new rifle caliber.

The .17 WSM is a rimfire that sends a 20 grain projectile 3,000 FPS. I understand that the trajectory is flatter than any rimfire made. In the area that I hunt, a 100+ yard shot will be the exception rather than the rule, yet I want to have the flexibility to reach out to 200 yards should I ever take it out west where things are more open.

I want to be able to see coyote size targets in the scope if they sneak within 30 yards, but still have a scope that will allow me to take accurate 150 yard shots as necessary.

I'm only spending $350.00 on the rifle, so I don't want to break the bank with a scope. I'm thinking no more than $200.00.

What would you scope experts suggest for this new rimfire and what size based on my usage, range, and budget? Thank you in advance for your assistance as I need all the help that I can get.

It should be a Nikon with BDC. Try the 3-9x40 Buckmaster, which is under 200 bucks! Go to the Nikon Spot On Technology website and enter your ballistic information. It will tell you at what distance any part of your reticle is set for. Amazing! You can opt for the 4.5-14, but it's a bit more money, a bit larger, and 4.5 minimum power is kind of high for a fast, close shot. Good luck with the cool new cartridge and gun! The BDC is in high demand, and may be backordered for a bit. Worth the wait.
